Today it was confirmed that work on a sequel to this year’s Sonic the Hedgehog movie is in production. Paramount Pictures and Sega Sammy have revealed that Jeff Fowler will return as director, and Pat Casey and Josh Miller will return as the writers for the script. As of yet there has been to decision about casting or the production start date.
The Sonic the Hedgehog movie started with a shaky production as the design for Sonic was too far removed from the game charter’s iconic design. After the the fan reaction the director vowed that the Sonic would be redesigned to be more in line with how the character usually looks. The redesign was a success and was a breakaway hit grossing 64 million at the box office and taking the title of the highest-grossing film based on a video game beating out the 2019 Detective Pikachu film.
Though there are no confirmed decisions on casting and production start date, it is possible that Jim Carry will be revising his role as Dr. Eggman. It is also very likely that the film will see some of Sonic’s friends introduced.
