Super Mario 35th Anniversary Direct Reveals Plethora of Mario Content

Nintendo did a stealth drop of the much anticipated Nintendo Direct presentation commemorating the 35th Anniversary of Super Mario series. The direct reveals several Mario games that are scheduled to launch before Spring of 2021.

The announcements begin with the reveal of Game & Watch Super Mario Bros. the first new piece of Game & Watch hardware in 29 years. This hardware will feature the original Super Mario Bros. game, and Super Mario Bros. 2 Known as the Lost Levels in western territories. The hardware will also feature a clock function and an updated Mario-themed version of the classic Game & Watch game Ball. Game and Watch Super Mario Bros. will release on November 13th.

The next announcement was an updated port the Wii U’s Super Mario 3D World. This port will feature an all-new game called Bowser’sFury. At this time it is unknown what this new game more will entail but judging from the rainy and ominous-looking reveal trailer it will likely be a more difficult than the main game. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is scheduled to release on February 12th 2021.

The next reveal was an all-new 35-player online battle royal style game called Super Mario Bros. 35. This game will feature 35 players as they compete to play Super Mario Bros.

During the matches the enemies a player defeats will be transported to other player’s screens making for a frantic battle of Super Mario Bros skill and action. Super Mario Bros 35 is available exclusively to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers as a digital-only title and will be playable from October 1st 2020 to March 31st 2021.

Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit is a new game for the Nintendo Switch where players can set up live race tacks in their home and play races using their Nintendo Switch as a controller for real Mario Kart remote controlled toys.

By using augmented reality technology players take control of real-world remote karts and can use the familiar items and abilities to blaze past opponents as they race through wild player-created tracks.

Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit will feature two RC karts to start, one one with Mario and one with Luigi at this time it is unknown if there will be any other playable characters or RC karts released. Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit will release on October 16th 2020.

Nintendo will hold digital events from now until Spring of 2021 and players who complete all the tasks will receive a Super Mario 35th Anniversary pin set.

Mario Kart Tour will hold a special event where players can get Classic Mario and Donkey Kong Jr. as playable racers.

Super Mash Bros. Ultimate will have an online competition later this year featuring Mario-themed characters, items, and stages.

A Super Mario-themed Splatfest will be coming to Splatoon 2 in January of 2021. Limited-edition Keychains will be available from My Nintendo Rewards during the Splatfest. And Special Splatfest tshirts will be vailable today from Nintendo’s online store.

In March of 2021, Super Mario-themed furniture will be coming to Animal Crossing New Horizons.

Super Mario All-Stars is coming to the Nintendo Switch Online service. This version will have updated graphics and audio from the original Super Nintendo and Super Famicom versions of the game.

The final announcement confirmed the rumored Super Mario 3D All-Stars game collection. The game will feature Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy.

The games will have higher resolution, and will be fully optimized for game play on the Nintendo Switch system. The game will also feature a soundtrack collection with all of the music tracks from each game.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars will launch on September 18th, with a limited run physical edition, and digitally. The physical edition will be available until March of 2021.
