Sonic Central Announces Celebration of 30th Anniversary of Sonic The Hedgehog Announces Content Throughout the Year

The Sonic Central is a new Nintendo Direct-styled streaming presentation for Sonic The Hedgehog news from Sega. Today the stream announced that lots of new games, merchandise, and content will be releasing throughout the year in celebration of the 30th Anniversary of Sonic The Hedgehog.

The first announcement was a Sonic Symphony streaming concert that will have an orchestra playing songs from throughout the history of the Sonic video games. The concert will also feature performances from the Sonic rock stars Crush 40 and DJing from series composer Tomoya Ohtani. The concert will be streamed for free on June 23rd in celebration of Sonic’s birthday. There will be a preview during the Summer Game Fest.

The next announcement was that there will be a Sonic the Hedgehog skin in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Official Video Game. Players will be able to wear the Sonic skin as they compete in all of the events. The game is set to release June 22 on PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.

Next they announced some Sonic characters skins and decorations coming to the game Two Point Hospital. The DLC will contain skins of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy. There will also be Sonic Arcade machines and carpet decorations. The Sonic Pack will be free to download and releases July 30th.

Next it was announced that a perfect recreation of the 1996 fighting game Sonic Fighters will be playable in the Sega arcades in the upcoming action game Lost Judgement. The game releases September 24th for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.

The section on collaborations ended with a hint that there will be Sonic The Hedgehog the,ed content coming to Minecraft. More announcements on this and other collaborations will come later this year.

The next announcement was an HD Remaster of the 2010 Nintendo Wii hit Sonic Colors. The game is available for pre-order now, and it scheduled to release on September 7 2021. Those that pre-order will get a Baby Sonic key chain from Sonic The Hedgehog: The Movie they will also access a Digital Deluxe version that contains more Sonic Movie themed in-game content.

To celebrate the release of Sonic Colors Ultimate Sega will be releasing a series of short-form animations telling a new Sonic Colors story titled Sonic Colors Rise of the Wisps. The first episode releases this summer.

The next reveal was that there is a compilation game of Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Sonic The Hedgehog 3, Sonic & Knuckles, and Sonic CD. The collection will have new content and features added to the games, it is scheduled to release in 2022 on all platforms.

This month a event is coming to Sonic Dash where players have the chance to get the Pirate Sonic and Captain Shadow characters, as well as other birthday-themed content.

Super Sonic will be coming to Sonic Forces mobile as a playable character. And later this year an event that allows players to create their own private online matches will be coming to the game for a limited time. This Halloween the werehog from Sonic Unleashed will coming as a playable character.

Sonic Racing mobile will have a classic mode where players race as classic Sonic characters on maps inspired by the classic Sonic games.

Some more details on the upcoming Netflix animated series Sonic Prime were revealed. The show is being made by Man of Action, the creative team behind Ben 10 and other animation. The story will involve Sonic and his friends trying to stop Dr. Eggman in a mysterious shattered universe. The series will be coming in 2022 and the first season is confirmed to be 24 episodes.

The presentation ended with a teaser trailer for the new Sonic the Hedgehog game from Sonic Team coming in 2022.
